Project Needs

Information provided by Ann Gillmore, President of the Friends of the Animal Shelter 11/98

The Friends of the Fort Scott Animal Shelter's hours are Tuesday from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Saturday from 8 A.M. to 12 noon, and Sunday from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.

Adult Volunteers Needed. If you are 18 or over, love animals, and not afraid of getting dirty the Friends of the Shelter need your help. Volunteers are needed to clean runs, walk dogs on leashes and bathe the dogs.

Help From Home. If you are unable to come in to the shelter, but want to help there are important things to be done. The Friends need people to write thank you notes to people and groups who have made donations. Also, people are needed to contact pet food companies for donations.

In Kind Donations are Needed. You can help by doing some spring cleaning. If you have old towels, old leashes or collars that are no longer needed, Friends can use them them. In addition, pet treats are always welcome as they are in scarce supply.

Collecting Heinz Pet Points. Heinz pet food labels feature "Homer, Help Homeless Pets." Each point is worth one half of a cent and can benefit the Animal Shelter.

Animal Taxis. The Friends of the Animal Shelter support "crate training" as a form of housebreaking. One taxi is available with a minimal deposit. If you have animal taxi's that you no longer need, Friends can use them to help animals adjust to their new homes.

Landscaping and Expansion. Friends would appreciate any donations of labor, fencing, concrete or shrubs. They plan to add four new runs and landscape the entrance when funds are available.

Friends of the Fort Scott Animal Shelter wish to thank Wal-Mart for providing broken bags of dog food and Heinz for furnishing adoption kits.

Special thanks to KMDO-AM and KOMB-FM and the Fort Scott Tribune for publicizing pets available for adoption.

Saving Points from these pet foods can help the Animal Shelter.
